PE Equipment
USD 297 was awarded a Cheyenne County Hansen Community Grant of $3,326.58 in 2019.
Public funding in K-12 schools has declined dramatically in a number of states over the last decade. Kansas has been one of those states that had to cut budgets within the school system. Smaller school districts like USD297 have seen their budget decrease. Therefore, there are fewer dollars if any to replace PE equipment or even purchase new equipment. If this grant is approved we would be able to replace and update the PE equipment in the grade school and junior high. Regular physical activity can help children improve cardio fitness, build strong bones and muscles, control weight, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and reduce the risk of developing health conditions. All of these things can be accomplished without PE equipment. However, with the new equipment it will allow our PE department to introduce new and exciting activities to our children. Which in turn will help develop lasting activities that a child will enjoy doing later in their life. If the child enjoys the exercising activities then they are more likely to continue them through adulthood. Which will help reduce health risks to our children later in their life.
